Thirteen people were killed and 37 others injured when a Pokhara-bound overloaded passenger bus skidded off, and plunged 100 metres below into a gorge in Sarangkot VDC-1 around 10 on 14th December, 09.

The vehicle, which had 52 passengers on board, was coming from Kaskikot. The victims are mostly residents of Kaskikot and Sarangkot VDCs. The injured are undergoing treatment at Manipal Teaching Hospital, Eastern Regional Hospital and Charak Hospital in the Lake City. Some are still unconscious due to concussion.

District Police Office, Kaski, said that two patients have been sent to the capital for treatment. The police are suspecting that the accident might have occurred due to brake failure. Locals, Foreigners and police force took part in rescue operations, helping the injured to be ferried to the hospitals.

The main cause of the accident is assumed to be the speed and overload of the bus. Some even say that the accident was due to brake fail. Police force is still investigating on the cause of the accident.

This is not the first time that this kind of accident have occurred in the hilly region of Nepal. Buses in Nepal are often crowded, with people traveling on rooftops, and vehicles and roads are poorly maintained in our country. This is main cause of accidents in the hilly region of Nepal.

ROAD REGULATION is necessary in nepal... "ROAD=DEVELOPMENT" ; this is what we think in Nepal, almost all the hills of nepal are now BULLDOZERED to connect with a mean of transport, Beside the environmental affect; unsafe unpaved roads of nepal leads to casualtiies like these. so the road regulation which doesn't allow such unpaved roads to be constructed is necessary. We should think once more before constructing any roads like these..
roads ≠ development

The vehicles of Nepal got no age ....and besides these steep hills aren't safe enough to drive along...
The leaders of Nepal are busy dividing the nation whilst the citizens are dying young due to their arrogance...Bless Nepal...
