Origin of village-tourism

We could call it the parish of old people where especially grand-mothers have been serving the tourists for years and children assist their guardians from kitchen to cultural theater till the late night.
Sirubari (1,800M), which is known as the origin of village tourism in Nepal, is now the dwelling of elder personnel and children. Almost all the youths left this land for their better education or good employment in urban areas or overseas but still we can find good hospitality even at this time of decade.
Following Visit Pokhara Year 2007, a couple of weeks ago a group of tourism entrepreneurs from Pokhara including some journalists visited 'Sirubari' to interact on how the entrepreneurs from both areas could collaborate to uplift their businesses.
When we reached Sirubari the inhabitants of this village welcomed us with garlands including musical melodies that are specially used in Nepalese matrimonial ceremonies.
Though it is the root of village tourism in Nepal, there are no star hotels and visitors ought to stay in villagers' home, but the facilities including the hospitality is homely and appreciable. Hot shower, modern toilets and twin sharing beds are the facilities for the tourist. Millet brew, dal-bhat, roosters' meat, pancake, milk and vegetable items are available to the paying guests. Mothers and grandmothers of around 80 with wrinkled faces are found to be serving their guest. A village management committee manages guests among the village houses.
After dining, guests are guided to a common theater in the village where young children perform Nepalese typical cultural songs and dances like Kaura, Ghantu, Jhoda and Sorathi. A 14 years old teenager girl Purnima Gurung is one of the dancers and a school student as well; she wishes to be a doctor in future and likes to remain in her village.
Guests have to wake up early in the morning and they are guided to the hills for a perfect sunrise view. Rhododendron also could be watched in its season. There are all total 80 houses in the village; out of them 40 houses takes care of the tourists. Sirubari in the present years is actually developing itself as a training center. Different groups of people reach there to learn hospitality from the mothers of Sirubari. The majority of the population is Gurung. Houses are typical-Nepali in style (Thatched)
Neat and clean environment, cherished hospitality and sun views are the special features of Sirubari. According to Ganesh Gurung, a local of Sirubari, About nine thousand tourists has visited the village in the time of 8 years.
Electricity, drinking water, Cable TV facilities are available in the village. We can visit Sirubari after the 3.5 hours journey of 28 kilometers rough road from the Syangja Bazar of Syangja district. If we enter from Nau Danda of Siddhartha Highway, it takes 4 hours of driving off road in a bus. Pokhara Tourism Council was the organizer of our trip.

i've heard about sirubari thru' my dad. he is immediatepast president of POKAHRA TOURISM COUNCIL it wud be an incredible journey there.definitely, its a heaven to visit. these people have done a great job.
I just been to Sirubari with Nepal Tourism Board Fam Trip. it was beautiful village and charming people. yes it's very clean compare to most of villages.so far very rich Gurung culture, I am jealous as well. because I am PURBELI GRG, we don't speak language.anyway there are still some things missing like, ORGANIC FOODS.most of the they bought from market, like Cucumbers, egg, meat etc. so what I feel is they buy all that they money would go outside. so if they can try to serve in ORGANIC, then guest would be happy and income would stay in village, support local economy..! and one things, beside sing and dance, may would be nice if they can product some local handicraft so that there would be interested people to buy it. Sorry for this, this is what I think would be more better for as being recognized Village tourism. anyway thank you all the Mother groups and Clubs members, I hope to visit again, Rajendra

Visit to Sirubari is a must if you fancy exploring real village life. Credit goes to each and every member of Sirubari for retaining such a rich cultural value. No wonder Sirubari is a first Namuna Gaon in Nepal. Jai Sirubari !!!
