Everyone dreams to fly like a bird on the sky. Mankinds have tried many life taking stunts to fulfill this dream. Paragliding is the creation of the means to that dream of flying on the sky. It is regarded as a recreational and competitive flying sport. A paraglider is a free-flying, foot-launched aircraft. The pilot sits in a harness suspended below a fabric wing, whose shape is formed by the pressure of air entering vents in the front of the wing. Like every year Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) western regional chapter Pokhara organized Paragliding Championship on 19 Jan, 2008. It was a 3 day event. This event was conducted with a plan of organizing world cup of Paragliding in Pokhara in the coming future. The other motive was to promote Pokhara which is usually regarded as a gateway to some of the world famous trekking routes as a Para gliders heaven. According to TAAN, the main attraction of the paragliding in Pokhara is the favorable weather and the stunning view of the mountain range on the north and city below and the best season to fly around is on winter. The event was populated by the Para gliders from around the world. All total 56 pilots including 11 Nepalis took part in the championship. The Para gliders had to take off from Sarangkot, a touristic village in the north of Pokhara and land in the bank of Fewa Lake. Minister Subba inaugurated the event and praised the work of the private sector in their role of promoting this sport in Nepal. Debu Choudhary of India was able to win the trophy of 9th Open Paragliding Champion. Similarly Jemie Messenger of UK and Kristen of USA bagged 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. In the class of DHP 112, Ajay Kumar Sharma of India, Bimal Adhikari of Nepal and Micheal Griffichs of UK bagged first, second and third prize respectively. Shankar Parajuli of Nepal won the prize of best spot landing and Damodar Parajuli of Nepal secured the best costume prize. Moulet Florence of France became the champion in woman side. Winners were given the trophy and certificates that were distributed by various invitees in the ending ceremony that was held in the bank of Fewa Lake.
