Hoops For Hope Charity raises HK$ 41,000 in a day


A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on Saturday, 25th April 2015, killing more than 8,000 people, 18,000 people injured and more than 300 people still missing. The one of the most deadliest earthquake in the Himalayan country, Nepal, left thousands of people displaced and destroyed thousands of houses, flatted villages and several UNESCO World Heritage Sites were turned into ruins.

It is a heart breaking scene in Nepal at the moment and everybody, be it Nepalese or not are doing their bits to help Nepal and are praying for them. At times like this, a group of youths, HK Nepal Basketball Association, came along to organize a basketball tournament with association with Hands For Nepal and helped raise a fund of HK$ 41,000 for the earthquake victims in a day.

The event, Hoops For Hope Fundraiser Basketball Tournament, was held on 10th May 2015 in King George’s V Memorial park, Jordan, Hongkong, where 8 teams participated from all over Hongkong and with the help of audiences and their donation, the event was made successful.

The fund raised in the event will go to Nepal earthquake victims via Oxfam Hong Kong and Child Welfare Scheme (CWS) Hong Kong.
